June 7th Vigil at the state capitol will honor the victims of Medical Marijuana Prohibition
MADISON: For the second year in a row, the medical cannabis advocacy group Is My Medicine Legal YET?, along with the Madison chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and JRMMA.org, is holding a vigil for Victims of Medical Marijuana Prohibition at the Wisconsin State Capitol Monday, June 7.
The vigil is scheduled for 4-6 pm at the South Hamilton/West Main entrance of the Capitol. IMMLY Founder Jacki Rickert is planning to be on hand to speak and will be joined by others including Gary Storck. Wisconsin Ojibwe drummer and carrier of sacred songs Al Baker is also scheduled to be on hand to add his music. Singer-songwriter Rick Harris, inspired by Jacki Rickert to write his song “Legal Medicine Blues” has been invited to reprise his 2009 vigil performance of the Wisconsin medical cannabis anthem.
Jay will be traveling to Madison representing Northern Wisconsin NORML and will be honor his cousin, friend and fellow activist, Rick Anderson. Rick is still an inspiration to all who knew him and Jay hopes to spark the same fire Rick had into others he meets on Monday, as he plans to share Rick’s inspiring story with everyone he knows.
Please contact Jay if you would like to be involved with this event or have someone that you would like added to our memorial list. The list of names of those who passed away without legal access to medical cannabis read at the vigil grows each year, and this year’s gathering will be especially poignant in that Mary Powers, a Madison cancer/AIDS/Hepatitis C patient who spoke at the 2009 vigil passed away Oct. 22, 2009.
