AD 13 Primary: Michalski (R) vs Granger (R), winner to face Vining (D)
Located in southeast Wisconsin, the Assembly District 13 comprises parts of western Milwaukee County and eastern Waukesha County. It contains most of the city of Wauwatosa, along with the village of Elm Grove and much of northern Brookfield.
In 2023 The City of Wauwatosa almost became the next municipality to moved personal possession of marijuana under 28 grams to just a one ($1) dollar fine. The initiative fell with two shorts vote of passing (9 against – 7 in favor).
We have two Incumbents in this race and one new comer who will force a GOP Primary in the newly drawn lines of this district.
Although technically considered a somewhat competitive assembly district, unfortunately for Tom and Patti the crystal ball election predictions have this race going to be very likely Democrat, giving Vining the win as she faces no Democrat primary challenger.
The Republicans
Tom Michalski (R-Elm Grove)
He said he is a child of the 70’s and marijuana is a gateway drug. He says he has mixed emotions about it. He recognizes that many people are strongly against, but he is keeping his options open yet. He does want or is in favor of getting the marijuana out of the hands of dealers. His WI EYE interview was something to watch and at 13:56 he stumbles over the marijuana question. He never mentions or answers how he feels about medical.
Michalski was absent from being a co-sponsor the GOP versions of medical marijuana.
Tom Michalski received a C- rating from the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

Patricia Granger (R-Wauwatosa)
My conversation with Patti Granger leads me to believe that if elected she would vote YES to reforming marijuana laws in general and seems to be a ‘will of the people’ type politician. She does have some reserves and issues with the topic, but her added input on the issue would probably be needed in the GOP should they want to tackle the issue of ending prohibition in Wisconsin.
Patti Granger received a B rating from the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

The Democrat
Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa)
Elected in 2018, former pastor and first year assembly representative from Wauwatosa did not sponsor any legislation on marijuana reform in 2019-2020.  In 2020-22 legislation session she stepped up the plate and co-sponsored recreational marijuana and had a repeat performance of her co-sponsorship in 2023-24 session.
In May of 2023 Rep. Vining and Senator Agard hosted a townhall version of the ‘Grass Routes Tour’ in Wauwatosa.
Robyn Vining received a A rating from the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

Although session as ended we still urge you to contact your elected officials. The top four action alerts are still functionable on The Wisconsin Cannabis Activist Action Network for you immediate use.
