Regional leaders for marijuana reform meet in Berlin
Regional leaders from several northern Wisconsin counties gathered together in Berlin at a recent meeting on July 27th for The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws regional chapter, Northern Wisconsin NORML. The meeting had a joint purpose to celebrate the birthday of Ripon resident Jessica, the chapters secretary, as well as discuss norml business.
- It was business as usual for the group discussing the local, state and national marijuana movement and news. Recent polls conducted in the local newspapers and on the chapters blog show high support for legalization of recreational and medical marijuana, as well as confirmed support for industrial hemp.
Members from the local chapter also discussed their participation at the recent “2010 Community Meeting on the Arts, Arts Education and Creative Economy” at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, Wisconsin. The presenter at the meeting was Anne Katz, from Arts Wisconsin. The overall theme of the meeting was to discuss and gather participant feedback on the current and future issues in the arts, arts education and creative economy, locally, regionally, statewide and nationally.
The Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival hosts a variety of creative artisans, musicians and vendors, and is known for providing a excellent venue for Wisconsin artisans. “Harvest Fest” is a draw on the national, right down to the local level, being held in Madison each year. Plans for attending the upcoming 40th Annual Great Midwest Harvest Festival as a group were also discussed. This will be the first journey to the Harvest Festival in Madison for many supporters in Northern Wisconsin, including the local chapter’s Executive Director and Wisconsin State Assembly Candidate Jay Selthofner. Scheduled speakers include Dave Redick, Aaron Klein, Ben Masel, Gary Storck, Jacki Rickert, Jim Miller, Mason Tvert, Judge Jim Gray, Jay Selthofner and Keith Stroup, the founder of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
The meeting was closed out with fellowship and the drinking of “stinging” nettle tea made by the local chapter Treasurer, Jan Londowski. Londowski is no stranger to eating weeds, as she organizes and hosts the “From the Land Folk Art Festival“, where in years past Sam Thayer, A Forager’s Harvest, taught her and guests to forage for their food around the family farm. The chapter recognized Jessie’s work as the chapter secretary with a card, balloons, presents and of course, cake!
As with any organization, new membership is important to keep an organization growing. The chapter would like to thank the new members in attendance and all the support behind the scenes and the Berlin Public Library for use of the venue.
The compliment we hear again and again is a simple “thank you”; as most people agree that reform in marijuana laws are needed. Northern Wisconsin NORML invites you to join them for a meeting and find out what all the buzz is about. “With marijuana laws changing from coast to coast, will Wisconsin be left behind or benefit the most?” Jay Selthofner
