AD 54: Incumbent Lori Palmeri (D) vs Tim Paterson
The 54th Assembly District is located in east-central Wisconsin, the district comprises part of eastern Winnebago County, including most of the city of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It also contains landmarks such as the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh campus, the Oshkosh campus of the Fox Valley Technical College, and the Oshkosh Corporation headquarters.
The City of Oshkosh has decriminalized small amounts of cannabis and Winnebago County almost did. I have been doing events, holding meetings and helping with a variety of campaigns in the Oshkosh area since 2009. I can say this, there is a high amount of support for legalization in this city, that is for sure!
Lori Palmeri (D – Oshkosh)
Elected Mayor of Oshkosh, 2019–23; Deputy Mayor of Oshkosh, 2018; Oshkosh Common Council member, 2016–23. Elected to Assembly 2022.
WI EYE from 2022 Interview 13:20. She says it is past time on medical but is still not quite 100% on recreational but is leaning yes, depending on how it is packaged including preventing youth use, substance abuse and what does the data truly look like for economy, but close it out, saying YES to medial and partial YES to recreational.
Palmeri did co-sponsor the 2023-24 bill that would have legalized adult use recreational cannabis for Wisconsin and for that, I thank her. No Republican co-sponsored or publicly supported that bill during the active session.
Visit her website to find out more about this candidate and follow her facebook page re-elect Lori Palmeri for Assembly 54 for up to date events.
Tim Paterson (R – Oshkosh)
Elected to Winnebago County Board of Supervisors District 11 in 2024
His website biography says Tim spent 33 years of his life in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves, was deployed twice overseas, served as a Blackhawk Pilot, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
His campaign facebook page was contacted for his stance on cannabis reform on Sept 8th with no response.
Stay tuned and get active!
I will provide you additional 2024 Wisconsin State Election coverage throughout the campaign season. This next election is extremely important for marijuana reform and I will continue to bring you information as more candidates make their political moves.
In the event that we end up with divided government in the 2024-25 legislation session, the official formation of The Wisconsin Cannabis Caucus would be a must first step towards reform. The official establishment of this Caucus will represent the growing, bipartisan support in Wisconsin.
Although session as ended we still urge you to contact your elected officials. The top four action alerts are still functionable on The Wisconsin Cannabis Activist Action Network for you immediate use.
