Unconvential mother "L.E.A.P.’s" back to midwest

Over the past several months stories of activism, cannabis events and new friendships have popped up faster than sprouting feral hemp seeds on a Wisconsin country road.

This past winter I had a chance to personally meet and work with a very unconventional combination in February.  Two jammed pack days of activism gave me the chance to see the world from several points of view and pushed me to new highs, gave me the inspiration to carry on.

From lobbying direct with legislators and speaking to the Attorney General office with L.E.A.P.’s Jim Gierach I learned facts, tone and passion are at times key ingredients.  Listening to Mieko Hester Perez and Joey’s story I learned courage, logic and passion are not as unconventional as you may think.  And with listening to Dan K Schroeder I learned drive, determination and passion are needed to finish the tasks at hand.

It seems that when you carry a big sign promoting the reform of cannabis laws you attract attention to yourself.  When you carry such large sign in the airport waiting to pick up a cannabis activist you create conversations.  When you confront these conversations again and again, you gain courage.  With courage in hand, Mieko at my side, Dan behind the camera and Law Enforcement Against Prohibition having my back, we were off to the library!

Working with the assistance of several organizations we rallied on February 6th, 2010 at the Berlin Public Library for the first T.H.C. (Talking Hemp and Cannabis) Tour.  Featuring not only The Unconventional Foundation for Autism and L.E.A.P., the small town of Berlin meet the faces of medical marijuana patients and supporters and embraced them with open arms.

Unfortunately Wisconsin did not pass Senate Bill 368 / Assembly Bill 554, publicly known as the Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act.  As we look ahead for the future of Wisconsin, we know we will need to rally the support to reform the marijuana laws in our state, this will take a cumulative effort and united front from all supporters.

Our neighboring state of Michigan is moving quickly in the reform of marijuana laws and has already protected patients and caregivers by passing a medical marijuana law.  This July the unconventional pair that joined us in Berlin will be back in Michigan, along with Cheryl Shuman, Julie Falco, Matthew Abel, Brandy Zink and Ed Rosenthal.
