Introducing the Wisconsin Coalition for Cannabis Reform

I’m excited to share some personal news and introduce an organization that is positioning itself to play a meaningful role in the future of cannabis policy in Wisconsin: the Wisconsin Coalition for Cannabis Reform (WCCR).

I was recently asked to join WCCR as a member of its Advisory Council, and I’m honored to also have been voted in as Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee. As Wisconsin continues to debate cannabis and hemp policy, WCCR is stepping forward as a coordinated voice representing businesses, stakeholders, and professionals working directly within the cannabis and hemp space.

What Is WCCR?

The Wisconsin Coalition for Cannabis Reform operates primarily as a trade and stakeholder coalition, bringing together individuals and organizations with a direct interest in cannabis and hemp policy outcomes. Rather than focusing solely on consumer advocacy, WCCR’s mission is centered on policy reform, regulatory clarity, and sustainable market structure.

The coalition exists to ensure that lawmakers hear from those who understand how proposed legislation and regulations will function in the real world—on farms, in storefronts, in supply chains, and across local economies.

WCCR works to:

  • Advocate for practical, workable cannabis and hemp legislation
  • Promote regulatory frameworks that support compliant businesses
  • Engage directly with policymakers and regulators
  • Identify unintended consequences of proposed laws before they cause harm
  • Build consensus among industry stakeholders

The Advisory Council

WCCR’s Advisory Council brings together a diverse group of professionals, advocates, and stakeholders with experience across the cannabis and hemp landscape. The initial members of the Advisory Council are:

  • Trisha Daniels
  • Tim Frey
  • David Beaupre
  • Jason Handal
  • John Kashou
  • Erin Kelly
  • Jay Selthofner
  • Craig Sutherland
  • Craig Thran

Together, this council provides strategic guidance, industry insight, and policy perspective to help shape the coalition’s priorities and outreach.

Legislative Affairs Committee

As Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee, my focus will be on monitoring legislation, engaging policymakers, and clearly communicating what proposed policies mean for coalition members and stakeholders. My background as a content creator, my understanding of the legislative process, my ability to build networks, and my familiarity with legislators’ past actions will help guide the committee’s work and support informed, effective engagement.

Wisconsin is at a critical point in its cannabis and hemp policy discussions. Decisions being made now will affect licensing structures, market access, compliance costs, and long-term viability for businesses across the state. WCCR’s goal is to be proactive—not reactive—by engaging early and constructively in the legislative process.

First Call to Action

WCCR is actively building its membership and stakeholder network as it continues to organize ahead of upcoming legislative activity. If you are interested in being involved, the next step is straightforward:

Interested stakeholders are encouraged to complete the WCCR membership join form. This allows the coalition to understand who wants to be involved and how members may wish to participate. Once submitted, a WCCR representative will follow up directly to discuss engagement opportunities, priorities, and next steps.

Whether you are a business owner, operator, advocate, or professional working in or alongside the cannabis and hemp space, WCCR is working to ensure informed stakeholders have a seat at the table as policy decisions are made.

More updates and formal calls to action will be coming soon. I’m proud to be part of this effort and look forward to helping WCCR engage constructively and effectively as cannabis reform continues to move forward in Wisconsin.
