A success on many levels, the recent Drug Conference in Madison featured leaders from throughout the world to met for a more defined target named Dana Beal.  As the speakers discussed the potential of Ibogaine, attendees could not think about much else than the horrors of marijuana prohibition that ultimately landed Dana Beal in a Wisconsin jail in the first place.   So as the world hurts, Wisconsin Drug Policy Reformist were able to learn more about the topic, in specific Ibogaine and the impact the “drug” can have.  Dana Beal hurts in a Wisconsin jail and we were educated on just how important a man he is and how much work he has done.  Dana Beal is blessed to have colleagues, friends, patients and professionals that care.   Attendees of the drug conference participated in something special, thanks to Dana Beal.  Those who were unable to attend really missed something special, something that is not likely to happen again anytime soon.

The following day, activists and community leaders made a trek to Dodgeville to speak on behalf of Dana Beal during his sentencing hearing in front of Hon. Judge Robert P. Vandehey.  The testimony and character references we heard that day contained the elements of truth, honesty and compassion that keep us all motivated everyday to do the things we do.   The closing statements from Dana Beal, along with the hours of testimony only begin to scrape the surface of what Dana Beal provided to our world.

Dana Beal’s entire closing statement during his sentencing testimony.

Hon. Judge Robert P. Vandehey sentenced Dana Beal to five years, 2.5 in custody and 2.5 supervised. This is the judge’s entire speech upon sentencing.

Update Sept 27th, 2011: Sadly, reported on the Facebook Page Free Dana Beal Ourselves

Aivia Monitto: Many of you may already know that my father Dana Beal is in the ICU at St. Mary’s in Madison, receiving treatment for a heart attack he had this morning. At this point he is stable but being kept sedated until Thursday and cannot receives calls directly. While we appreciate all of the love the community is showing Dana, at this point the hospital has asked me to ask that no more calls be placed inquiring after his well being because the overwhelming number of calls is detracting from the care they can give him. Please feel free to contact me directly to receive updates, and re-post this message into the community so that everyone knows. I will be flying to Milwaukee/ Madison as soon as i can, i hope to be there by tomorrow evening. In the meantime, family can visit, as well as Alice Torbush and Dana’s Lawyer, but I ask that people outside of immediate family do not visit until I am there. If anyone is interested in being placed on the visitors list before then, please contact me so we can decide if that would be a good idea. He is doing better, but we wont know anything more until Thursday, possibly not until the weekend, so I am asking that everyone hold tight until then.
