Supporting our school

As printed in the Berlin Journal, Green Lake Reporter, Omro Herald, Princeton Times Republic, Markesan Regional Reporter and Fox Lake Representative Issue Number 8, Thursday February 24th,  2011:

As parents of Green Lake School students we want to voice our collective support for our school.  Many of us live in Green Lake by choice, because we believe that the school provides our kids with exceptional skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

We are taxpayers and understand that the economic times dictate that government should take steps to reduce spending.  However, it is disconcerting that the school has taken the brunt  of the fiscal debate in our community.  We disagree with those who have blindly attacked educational programs as wasteful or ineffective.  Programs should be constantly evaluated for effectiveness, but they should not be evaluated entirely on coast or on hearsay.  We have seen first-hand the positive impact these educational efforts have on student learning.  For the sake of the community and the education of our children, we must support school board candidates that place the highest priority on the needs of students.

Green Lake School provides the best return on taxpayer investment: the education of our children.  A smaller, more personal community school gives us the advantage of children who are better citizens and makes this town a better place to live.
