Selthofner for State Assembly was featured in the Midwest Cultivator 2010 Voter’s Guide. The Midwest Cultivator slogan is bringing people and business together in a growing industry and their crew came down to Madison recently for the 40th Annual Great Midwestern Marijuana Harvest Festival and gather information on the marijuana movement. Co-owner and editor of The Midwest Cultivator Charmie Gholson was also featured speaker at the days events.
The 2010 Fall Voters Guide contained a specific Wisconsin Voter’s Guide starting on page 17. The TMC staff reported on the 40th Annual Marijuana fest in Madison in an article entitled Movement To End Marijuana Prohibition Gains Momentum and Gary Storck form NORML had an article printed entitled Nov 2 Referendum in Dane County Voters Asked If They Want To Legalize Medical Marijuana. A medical marijuana referendum is also on the ballot in River Falls, Wisconsin.
Communications Director Richard A. Martin Jr. from Northern Wisconsin NORML gave a great overview of the importance of Selthofner’s election as well as provided some insight in to the rich hemp and politicalhistory in the largest city in Selthofner’s district. Ripon and the surrounding areas were once home to green fields filled with hemp plant from farmstead to farmstead. In 1917 the Fairwater Hemp Company burnt the waste product, the hurd of the hemp plant in a furnance to generate electricity for the village. We have archived the article for you to read here, but urge you to visit The Midwest Cultivator.com review the entire 2010 Fall Voter’s Guide.
Jay Selthofner, Independent Candidate for WI State Assembly
There is a political candidate running for state assembly in Wisconsin that is really causing a stir in his district and around the state. This candidate is not only taking on the issues of Cannabis and Hemp law reform, he is doing it in the 41st state assembly district. Ripon Wisconsin is part of that district. What is remarkable about Ripon (besides the Ripon cookie factory and home of Cookie Daze) is the fact that Ripon Wisconsin is the birthplace of the Republican Party. And NO ONE other than a Republican candidate can win in that area.
When Jay Selthofner wins as an Independent candidate he will make history. Jay will be bringing T.H.C., Truth, Honesty and Compassion back to Madison, Wisconsin’s State Capitol.
Wisconsin is known for its farmlands. Wisconsin was also known as one of the major producers of Hemp (second to Kentucky) in the US before it was outlawed. Wisconsin farms occasionally have wild hemp grow on the outskirts of the fields. We were such a major producer of hemp because of innovations in hemp cultivation. We had some pretty sweet machines that would harvest hemp.
When Jay wins, he will fight to bring back the right for our farmers to grow hemp once again. We are the only industrialized nation in the world that does not produce hemp. We do however import hemp from around the world.
Get the picture? Industrial Hemp is Jobs, Medical Marijuana is healthcare and Recreational Cannabis should be embraced, not punished
America imports hemp products from Canada, our neighbors to the north. We also import hemp fiber building materials from Europe from the former Yugoslavia. We import clothing and wedding dresses made from hemp from the middle east. We also get hemp products from China (As if we couldn’t be in any more debt to them…). We do this all because they say our police would have a hard time distinguishing hemp from cannabis.
Though Cannabis is a cousin of hemp and does look a bit similar, the assertion that our police can’t tell a tall stalk hemp plant from a shorter bushy cannabis plant is laughable as police around the globe seem to have no problem identifying the difference between the two. Our police would need just a bit of training I suppose. The ban on hemp is absurd anyway. Banning hemp because it kind of looks like cannabis is like saying we should ban corn starch, baking soda, flour and powdered sugar because it looks like cocaine!
Farming Hemp with family
Hemp production would help our farmers tremendously. We already import enough of it. The demand for hemp and hemp products is already there. Our farmers should be allowed to grow it. It is an amazing plant that needs little to no pesticides to grow. Hemp doesn’t need as many fertilizers. Hemp also has a long tap root that can effectively remove chemicals thus rejuvenating the soil and making an excellent rotational crop. Farmers can also grow year after year with multiple harvests in the year. Wisconsin farmers would not need the subsidies from the government as they do for corn to make farming hemp worth their while.
Wisconsin farmers would greatly benefit from growing hemp and it really would be in their best interest to vote for Mr. Selthofner.
One of these things is not like the others, Annual Global Deaths by Alcohol, Cigarettes, Pharmaceuticals and Cannabis
Jay is also for Cannabis law reform. Jay not only wants medical use of cannabis for patients in need, also endorses the recreational use for adults. The priority would be to take the sick and dying off the battlefield from America’s War on Drugs. Patient’s however will never be truly free unless we allow recreational use for adults. Police would always attempt to play “Doctor” in an attempt to distinguish who is healthy enough to arrest and who is really worthy and should be left alone. Sound familiar, Michigan?
Jay is a candidate with a lot of energy. His passion for cannabis/hemp law reform is obvious when you speak to him. Jay is extremely intelligent and fun to talk to. When you talk with him he listens. He keeps eye contact and really listens. As I said he is honest and will tell you straight out if he agrees with you or not or if he needs to do more study into the issue. Jay is an open book. I respect the man and fully endorse Jay Selthofner. The people of the 41st Assembly district are lucky to have him and Jay would be very honored to serve them! Keep Wisconsin GROWING!
Selthofner wanted to also share with you a video on his YouTube channel. The video is entitled “If these walls could talk” is one that helped moved him to take action, today.
