Selthofner campaign leads way among candidates supporting marijuana reform
Recently the Madison NORML Examiner writer, Gary Storck commented on statewide campaigns in his article entitled “Voters have some opportunties to impact state and national cannabis policies“. The article featured both federal and state races in Wisconsin from the Gubernatorial to seats where both parties and everyone in between supports marijuana reform.
The campaign of Jay Selthofner was mentioned as being very outspoken. It is the hopes of Selthofner that his statewide work throughout the last year will assist him in not only getting elected, but also to move the reform and legislative process forward by leaps and bounds.
The most outspoken candidate for cannabis legalization in state legislative races is Jay Selthofner, the Independent candidate for Assembly District 41. Selthofner, founder of Northern Wisconsin NORML, has featured cannabis, marijuana and hemp in his campaign against Rep. Joan Ballweg, the GOP incumbent. Madison NORML Examiner’s interview of Jay Selthofner can be found here.
Selthofner had this to add: “with marijuana laws changing from coast to coast, some states will be left behind and some will benefit the most. Comprehensive legislation is needed. Just like any proposed legislation, poorly written bills will never pass in Wisconsin. Our state is famous for high taxes, strict business regulations and protecting consumers. I propose we tax, regulate and protect our citizens with comprehensive marijuana legislation, possibly setting precedence or a model for other states.”
Past articles indicate that Selthofner’s stance on Industrial Hemp is poised to put Wisconsin back to work. Hemp eco-plastics, building materials and textiles, green fuels and energy as well as food and medicines mean nothing but jobs for the states that move ahead with comprehensive legislation.
Gary Storck is also board member and co-founder of Madison NORML, the current president of Wisconsin NORML, and the director of communications for the group, Is My Medicine Legal YET? He is also a longtime Wisconsin medical cannabis activist, speaker and writer who first became a volunteer for NORML (The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) back in the 1970’s in Milwaukee.
